Star Of "The Queen's Gambit," Anya Taylor-Joy, Says She's Not Beautiful Enough To Be In Films
"I have never, and I don't think I will ever think of myself as beautiful."

Recently, the Netflix series, The Queen's Gambit, has been leaving viewers glued to their screens. People are loving the show and perhaps even more so, the show's star, Anya Taylor-Joy.
But shockingly, the stunning 24-year-old actress recently revealed that she finds it difficult to live up to the beauty standards of Hollywood. Instead, Anya insists she is "weird-looking."
"I have never, and I don't think I will ever think of myself as beautiful," Anya said. "It sounds pathetic, and my boyfriend warns me people will think I'm an absolute d*** for saying these things."
Anya was first discovered outside London's Harrods by model-scout Sarah Doukas. Sarah signed the then 16-year-old up to the Storm modeling agency, which then led her into acting.
Anya says she is continuously working on learning to accept herself for who she is and how she looks. "I have made it a practice in my life to not turn down compliments," she says.
anyataylorjoyThe actress says she always felt different from others when growing up. "I was too English to be Argentine, too Argentine to be English, too American to be anything," she explained.
anyataylorjoy"The kids just didn't understand me in any shape or form. I used to get locked in lockers," Anya said.

anyataylorjoyAnya refuses to watch herself on the big screen. "I won't go to the cinema to watch my own film," she said.
anyataylorjoyInstead, she will watch the film before it is screened. "The beauty of being in your own skin is that you don't have to look at your own face," she says.
anyataylorjoyAnya, who dreamed of being an actress from when she was just 6, believes that she is not beautiful enough to star in films.
anyataylorjoyWhile filming 2020's adaption of Jane Austen's "Emma," she felt the role didn't represent her at all.
"I genuinely had a panic attack on Emma because I thought, 'I am the first ugly Emma, and I can't do this,' because the first line in the movie is, 'I'm handsome, clever and rich,'" Anya said. "I have never, and I don't think I will ever think of myself as beautiful."
