Production staff can go either way when they create sets for the films and shows. It’s either they create a whole set or rent out a place until everything’s done and packed up.
There are advantages to both. With sets built inside studios, they can control most elements and customize them the way they want to.
The downside with that is the amount of time and money that would go into building the whole thing. It might not be an investment that would be worth it, especially if they wouldn’t use it that long.
The other option would be renting out a place that fits the description of the writers’ or directors’ vision. They would only have to tweak it here and there to make it fit whatever story they’re trying to make.
These places would sometimes turn into iconic tourist spots even when a long time has passed since the filming took place. Some owners even take it up a notch and rent it out to those who want to live out their dream of being immersed in the story.
You’d see these places listed out in Airbnb ads and might be interested in seeing how much movie magic was put into them. And how different they are now that there are no lights, cameras, and someone who yells action vacating the place.
