Hilariously Horrendous Dog Photos Generated By AI That Will Absolutely Leave You Traumatized

Technology has really come a long way, and along with it comes the surge of artificial intelligence power. And it's not just with robots, tech assistants, and the like—artificial intelligence is now also used to create works of art!

Many people would debate if art made by AI should even be considered art, given that it is not produced by the human mind. Yes, a lot of artists nowadays do make use of AI to create some of their works, but should it really be considered masterpieces when it's just the computer's algorithms responsible for it?

Either way, it's still kind of amusing to see all these artworks posted all over the Internet, especially since basically anyone could create an AI-generated piece themselves (and yes, even you). Applications and sites like starryai, Dream by WOMBO, and ArtBreeder is just some of the ones you can visit online if you want to create an AI-generated artwork out of something at the top of your head—using a phrase, a song lyrics, or simply just a word, and you also get to choose which style you want your artwork to be!

That being said, there is also an AI program dedicated to making not generic artworks, but photos of dogs. Yes, you can even find it on Twitter under the handle @dog_fakes!

But let's start with this one—you may have come across this account on Twitter.

It's called WeRateDogs, and they rate dog photos and videos from the people that send them. But guess what, every dog gets at least a score of ten because they're just that great and deserving!

Now, we have its AI counterpart—@dog_fakes.

This account is full of AI-created dogs with AI-created captions. And yes, they look terrifying, but adorably so.

This Twitter account was created by Janelle Shane, a research scientist and author, who writes about artificial intelligence.

She used OpenAI's new API to create a Twitter bot inspired by the @dog_rates account. She then utilized Artbreeder to make the dog images.

Not only that, but the bot also captions the photos that are so eerily accurate you would be either absolutely terrified or amused.

Fortunately, most of the AI-created dogs do look like dogs, and even the captions seem to be accurate AF.

But some others are just...well, see for yourself.

Here's one of them: Lady, who loves a good sandal but got a butt shave instead.

Moe's a pretty adorable one, even with those feet. 13/10 will adopt him.

A talking dog with three tales? Sounds like trouble in waiting—pass!

Shane said that you can give the AI some prompts. This one's created using the words "Cthulhu" and "tentacle."

The @dog_rates account even noticed their AI counterpart; and they seem happy to be the inspiration of this madness!

Such a good dog. Even if he just ate an abomination.
