Graduation is a joyous occasion for students and their families. Francesca Bourdier's special day was made even more special and joyful by the presence of her tabby cat, Suki.

Suki had attended every single one of Bourdier’s online classes over the previous two years, so Bourdier wanted to do something to recognize their accomplishment. She made a tiny, Suki-sized graduation gown to match her own well before the ceremony.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdowns, most of Bourdier's classes were held online — but she was never alone. As soon as Suki heard her Bourdier’s online class begin, Suki would join her in front of the laptop.

She'd just walk up to Bourdier's desk and lie down next to her as if she was trying to listen to the class discussion. And if Bourdier was taking notes on her iPad, she'd just sit on it.

Bourdier adopted Suki from a local animal shelter in September 2020 after seeing her picture online. She ended up driving to three different locations in search of her, and when she finally found her, there was a long queue of people waiting to adopt Suki.

Bourdier's perseverance paid off in the end, and she was the one who walked away with the adorable cat. "When I finally got her, I was like, 'Wow, I get to be her mom,'" Bourdier said.

Cats can be lifelong friends, and along the way, they will learn how to live more harmoniously with you. Suki had been doing it flawlessly.

Suki has always fancied learning new skills since she joined the family, perfecting tricks like high-fiving, spinning, and giving her paw on command. When the brainy cat began attending every single one of Bourdier's Zoom lectures, it just seemed natural.

Suki's presence in class provided Bourdier with the comfort and support she required to complete her degree online. Believe me, there is no purer love than this.

When one of her lecturers asked the class to bring in their pets, Bourdier realized she wasn't alone. Bourdier was surprised to see that almost every student had a pet with them.

While earning a degree with Suki made Bourdier's school experience more rewarding and entertaining, it's just one of many goals the two hope to attain together. Suki, as Bourdier stated, is unique and has a sweet heart.

The COVID-19 lockdown proved to be an emotionally stressful period, but this lovely cat, Suki, got the back of her owner. She provided all the company and moral support Bourdier needed to finish her online course with flying colors.

We strongly believe this lovely story about Suki will convince you to give one of those shelter cats a place to call home. You never know what awaits you.
