Abandoned Puppy Looks So Much Like A Bat And Was So Lucky This Girl Rescued Her

This precious bat puppy deserves love.

Sometimes animals look like other entirely different animals, we see it all the time. Like this cat who looks like a fox, and this dog who looks like a teddy bear, not to mention this puppy that looked like it was part cat, this Russian bear-dog, and this cat who looks like a bat.

Being familiar with how confusing it can be to look at an animal and now know for sure what animal it is makes it not so surprising that this little pup looks so much like a bat! However, Meeps had a rough start to life and it was fate that put the right family in the right place at the right time.

Alesha Brandt's daughter found Meeps 11 years ago. Alesha said:

“My daughter saw her get thrown from a car. She was severely malnourished (weighing in at 2 pounds) and her eye was damaged beyond repair.” 

“My daughter bathed her, and she just sat silently in the tub letting my daughter clean her ... while waiting on me to get home to take her to the vet,” she added in an interivew with The Dodo.

Alesha didn't think Meeps would make it. But she did!

Meeps had a seriously rough start to life, but she's doing amazing today with a loving family.

Meeps is a Brussels griffon (a breed of toy dog, named for their city of origin: Brussels, Belgium.)

She is missing an eye, a leg and an eardrum, and that's why she has a "signature" head tilt.

It's her ears that give the impression to some that she looks a bit like a bat. They're large and hairless, bald and oversized.

Aleesha said:

“She has never grown hair on her ears, so they feel like soft leather and look like bat wings. She is often called a fruit bat because she loves bananas and oranges.”

Meeps is totally unhindered by her small stature and disabilities. She runs the house, bossing around her dog siblings (Krum, another Brussels griffon, and her favorite buddy, a Malinois named Lech.)

Meeps is loaded with personality, spunk, and spice.

“Once, she barked at a fire hydrant for 20 minutes, thinking it was an intruder,” Brandt told The Dodo. “I didn’t have the heart to tell her the truth.”

And Meeps is fiercely loyal.

“She is a ‘one-woman dog," Alesha joked.

More seriously, Alesha added:

“She is 100 percent my shadow and prefers to be in my arms or on my lap. She travels with me almost everywhere.”

Meeps may look peculiar, and bat-like, and may have had a rough start to life over a decade ago. But the Brandt family knows she's a great dog and they love her deerly.

“She leads a pretty normal life,” Alesha said. “Eats well, loves naps and warm sunshine.”
